Will Microsoft purchase Skype by using AngelList?

Money talks at AngelList, a smart a community making fund-raising efficient. Will Microsoft use them when purchasing Skype? I guess Microsoft don’t need to make any fund-raising ore Crowdfunding. My opinion is that they should. Why? To learn how community culture works (purchasing a company is not the same as purchasing their community and followers).

  1. Very valid point Stefan. As of this morning I read that Microsoft paid cash and bought Skype. Will the users stop using Skype because Microsoft owns it? I don’t know the answer. But if the general feel/look/product offering doesn’t change or maybe even improves maybe it will only attract more users. Case-in-example – YouTube.
What I am MORE curious to know is whether this move was really a good investment. Since Google has chat with voice and there are so many other variants of skype-like VOIP I may have missed the reasoning behind Microsoft’s move. It wasn’t a cheap deal either!

  2. Thanks good points Kunal. Yes, the technology is no longer new so the value is more depending on the followers and the brand. Goolge is more into the consumer power culture so they where right for youtube. I think Microsoft needs to update their own corporate DNA instead of buying solutions/time and evolution for other corporations.
